After some delicious ham, pasta salad and hashbrown cheesy potatoes, we finished with the Easter Bunny's favorite -- Carrot Cake -- followed by a spirited game of badminton.
» The Spring Garden, 2011 Edition | Nashville
A wet spring followed a cold winter; for some reason even the old reliables (daffodils and irises) didn't bloom -- perhaps the extended cool weather?
» Alison & Clare with Harrison & Deb at The CAMP | April, 2011
Deb's friend, Alison, drove up from Gainesville; and Harrison brought Clare, his girlfriend, from VU to join Deb and Rick for a weekend in the woods. » The Savage Gulf, Spring Wildflower Hike | April, 2011
A warm and sunny weekend for a great hike! While the three ladies and Harrison did the overnight backpacking trip, Rick played "sherpa" and shuttled them to and from the different trail-heads they used to begin and end their trek. While he was waiting at Sunday's pick-up point, Rick took some time to get some nature close-ups of the stream just below Suter Falls. Harrison, meanwhile, took some great shots of the entire expedition, including some underwater shots with his all-purpose camera!

» Early Spring in the Garden | March, 2011

» The Final Snows, Winter 2010-11 | February 2011
After a snowy stretch that began on Christmas morning, the second week of February brought two light spits of snow that closed out the infamous Winter of 2010-2011. These were pretty, if only because they were light and delicate.
» The COLD Sunny Snow of February 2011 | Nashville
After about 2 inches of snow yesterday afternoon & evening, we woke up this morning to 11 degrees, accompanied by the cheery news from our local weatherman that this morning Nashville was colder than North Pole, Alaska (14º), McMurdo Station, Antarctica (16º), Helsinki, Finland (21º) and Moscow, Russia (23º)…! But … it was a pretty snow, and made for some good pictures (and a fast 10 bucks for Parker, who swept off the driveway).
» The Big WET Snow of January 2011 | Nashville
Not to be confused with the "Big [not wet] Snow of 2011" (below), this one came a couple of weeks later. Started around 11 pm as very heavy rain, quickly transitioning to very heavy, wet snow. Most of it was over by 8 am. Hard to say just how much we got because it was so heavy, it compacted down on top of itself very quickly. A big slushee in the yard, but it really dressed up the bare trees in the woods!
» The Big Snow of January 2011 | Nashville
Harrison and his girlfriend, Clare were here since classes didn't start 'til the 12th at VU. She, Harrison and Deb went out for some old-fashioned sledding fun (snow consistency was perfect for it!) Yours truly, unfortunately, had to work. (The downside of working online -- no snow days! ;)
» The Big Snow of January 2011 | at The Camp
The weekend after, Deb, Parker and his girlfriend, Melissa, headed down to The Camp to see what was left of the FOOT of snow they received from the same storm. Answer: Not a whole lot, relatively speaking -- but some awesome ice formations at Indian Camp Creek Falls; Greeter Falls; and Horsetail Falls (the latter two in the Savage Gulf area). Guess who stayed at home in Nashville and worked? :(
