INTERNATIONAL CONFECTIONER MAGAZINE, 1914
As I was working on the Dreves Family History, thanks to Google, one of the little gems I discovered is a copy of all 12 monthly editions of the International Confectioner magazine from 1914. I'm sure Pop was aware of the publication and probably read it from time to time. It's a large file, but worth downloading and perusing.
The first 40 or so pages are mainly confectionery ads; and I'd guess "Pop" did business with some of these suppliers.
On page 49 of the magazine (page 56 of the PDF file) you'll find "Dotty Definitions" :)
On page 56 of the magazine (page 63 of the PDF file) is an interesting essay about "selling a store -- how the game is worked . . ." -- Makes you wonder how the reality of Pop's buying and selling of stores compared to some of the scenarios laid out in the article.
On page 77 of the magazine (page 84 of the PDF file) you'll find "German Notes," which probably tells you how many German immigrants went into the confectionery business!
And that's just the January issue! :) The other monthly issues follow it, in chronological order.
Click here to download and view it, or you can just click thru the online copy, below (use the left and right arrows to move forward or backward thru the magazine; use the "+"
