photos FROM 2012
An eclectic assortment of photo galleries from 2012; most recent, first:
» Christmas & New Year's Hikes, 2012
On Christmas eve and again New Year's Weekend, we were able to get in a pair of excellent hikes down "on the mountain", too!
» Christmas, 2012
This year, after a quick Christmas Eve visit to the Camp, we were able to enjoy Christmas at home!
» House Fixups
The boys are back in town, and we fixed a nagging drainage issue in front of the house. PS -- Santa bought Rick a new Gas Lamp, too!
» Thanksgiving, 2012
For the first time in several years, we were "down on the mountain" for Thanksgiving, even though Harrison was climbing out in Utah (see below...)
» Harrison's Thanksgiving Rock Climb in Utah
With some of his WilSkills friends, Harrison DROVE to Utah for some Thanksgiving weekend rock climbing!
» Fall Visit to Orlando
Headed south with the birds to visit family in Orlando ... got to do some night fishing and attempted shrimping with Dad (no catch, but lots of fun!). We also gave Mom & Dad an iPad, which Mom took great delight in showing around to the assembled family members!
» Fall in Nashville
An especially colorful fall, thanks to the late-summer rains!
» Dad's Visit to Tennessee | October, 2012
A mini-reprise of October, 2011's "Great Adventure"...Dad returns to Tennessee!
» Deb's John Muir Trail Hike | September, 2012
50+ scenic and breathtaking miles on the John Muir Trail in California with Deb's friend, Alison.
» Parker's Patio Lights | August, 2012
With much gusto and excitement, Parker signed on to help Rick install new "Seaside-style" patio lights at the house in Nashville. Voila -- instant "cool"!
» Deb's Savage Gulf Hike | August, 2012
A warm-up for her John Muir Trail hike, planned for September (see above). The warm-up lap is in Savage Gulf, near the cabin.
» The Woodpecker Who Thinks He's a Hummingbird
Interesting "customer" at the hummingbird feeder outside Deb's window. He must be getting something out of it, because he keeps coming back for more!
» Harrison's North Cascades Climbing Trip | August, 2012
Harrison and his friends from WilSkills (all of whom have now graduated) reunited in Seattle to take on Inspiration Peak, in the Terror Basin of the North Cascade Mountains in Washington State. Quite a contrast in climate from where they began their trek (about 500 feet above sea level) to where they ended up (over 8100 feet above sea level)!
» Wet August at the Camp | 2012
After a scorchingly dry June, July and August were remarkably wet and, at times, even cool! One August weekend Deb and I got down to the Camp to enjoy both cool temps and the uncharacteristically active streams and waterfalls, a nice by-product of all the rain, and something you don't normally see in August. The first few photos are of the falls & area right around the cabin; the balance, including shots of Deb hiking, were from the Fiery Gizzard Trail and Grundy Forest State Natural Area. (Deb did 14+ miles in preparation for her upcoming hike on the John Muir Trail with her friend, Alison, coming up in September!) PS -- Apologies for all the "bee shots" -- that was just about the largest bee I'd ever seen, and he (or she) was working over those flowers with a vengeance. Compare the "regular" bee in the first few frames to the much larger one, with the single black spot on its back!
» The Birds of Summer
We had quite an assortment in our yard in Nashville, even during the worst of the heat ... but fear not, those robins are sunbathing, baking their feathers, not in any real distress! (Funny thing about birds, as you watch these pics, notice how much time they spend SQUABBLING with each other!)
» The Great BOSTON Adventure | July, 2012
Since Harrison's summer internship took him to Bean Town, and Deb had never been, we figured, "why not?" and so we spent the week of the Fourth of July in the Birthplace of the American Revolution. There are separate galleries for each topic. Don't fret -- most of these are only a half-dozen or so photos, but at least this way you can pick out the subjects of greatest interest … ;)
» Summer at the Camp | 2012
Up at the Camp, we took care of some maintenance items, took in the view, and did a bit of hiking and nature-watching, to boot!
» Summer in Nashville | 2012
The Boys are Back ... and the garden is in full swing. Plus, a summer thunderstorm dropped a huge tree on somebody's SUV in the parking lot at our office ... so as good landlords, we had to get over there and clean that up!
» Dad and Aunt Dot Visit the Camp | May, 2012
Ah, spring … and the fixin' needs a-doin' at the Camp. Dad and Aunt Dot joined Harrison and Rick for a fixer-upper weekend, reconfiguring the upstairs bedroom and replacing cracked and brittle lattice under the porch with something a bit more substantial…
» Parker & Melissa, Prom Night | April, 2012
Parker came back from ETSU to escort Melissa to the Franklin High prom, along with Melissa's friend Emily and her date …
» Deb's Spring Garden | April, 2012
The unusually warm spring yielded an early and colorful garden this year …
» Parker's 19th | March, 2012
The warm spring also made for the first "green" birthday in Parker's 19 years on the planet. (The trees are usually not 'leafed out' on his birthday; it's more typically still looking like winter on March 29th) …
» Seaside, Redux | March, 2012
Everyone needed a break -- the kids from college, Rick & Deb from the hub-bub of the Great Renovations (see below) … so we decided to return to Seaside, FL, which we hadn't done since the kids were in Middle School. A week in our favorite beach village was good therapy for all!
» White Buck Snow | February, 2012
The White Buck showed up in front of our office in Franklin, and about the same week, this snow showed up one afternoon; couldn't make up its mind whether to snow or rain …
» Birthdays, and a 'Full Nest' | Jan-Feb, 2012
Before all the kids headed back to college, we had our traditional 'joint birthday' celebration for Rick and friend Dave Warren (they're only a couple of days apart). Also, by happenstance, one weekend in February, both of the boys were home at the same time …
» The Great Crestridge Renovations | early 2012
Actually, this spanned the entire period from Labor Day 2011 to Memorial Day 2012 -- a series of major home improvements, starting outside with the roof and eventually touching every room inside except the kitchen, basement and Deb's old office. The results, however, were probably worth the hassle…!
» Dad and Dee Visit the Camp | January, 2012
My incredibly lucky (or talented?) sister came to Tennessee once again this year during the winter season in search of SNOW (of which we don't really get all that much). In fact, the weekend she and Dad came up, the freezer door was left open and we had plenty of the white stuff on the ground, which hung around for two days because the temps never got above freezing (again, unusual for our area). So, her title as the Snow Queen is safely validated for another year…!
» Climbing and Caving in the Lone Star State | January, 2012
Harrison and friends from VU headed south by southwest to climb and explore caves in the Texas Hill Country, up close and personal …
» Crestridge Cars & Critters | early 2012
Deb's been hanging with the River Otters at the Harpeth River Watershed Association's fall fundraiser; and horseback riding with friend Paula near the Natchez Trace; Parker's car was totaled in a pile-up on I-40, on his way home from ETSU for the holidays … so it was goodbye to the old and hello to the new, which set off a round of automotive musical chairs (ending, in the last few frames, with Rick replacing his 12-year-old Lexus with a newer model) …
