Rick & Deb headed northeast to Virginia (Rick had a meeting at UVa in Charlottesville; Deb went on to Washington, DC, to pick up Harrison, who was wrapping up his Space Policy internship at the National Academies of Science). On the way back, we stayed over at Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Deb's quest for good local knitting yarn led us to the Legacy Alpaca farm near Manchester, TN, where the owners, Tom and Linda Baker, breed and raise the animals, and mill the raw wool fiber into yarn and 3 x 4-foot bolts of cloth...

An absolutely amazing exhibition of photos of various aboriginal cave art finds, primarily along the Cumberland Plateau in KY, TN, AL and GA. This exhibit was on display at the Archives of the University of the South (Sewanee) in the early fall of 2013. Photos of the exhibit were taken with permission from the exhibit's curator.

While in Arizona, we took a couple of hours to visit the Casa Grande Ruins. The 1930s-era protective structure over the ruins is, itself, on the National Register of Historic Places!

A relatively mild winter, but we did have a few bouts of light snow, and one ice storm (which, interestingly, only affected hilltops above 800 feet -- you can almost see where the 'ice line' is drawn across the hills. At the house, we had no ice on our driveway or shrubs, but in the upper crowns of our trees, you could see the ice glistening in the sun, the morning after!
